The horse is a plains icon and one of my favourite subjects to paint.  Focusing on western themes as I do affords me the chance to paint them a lot - but I have begun to create paintings that have only the horse as the main subject.  In this piece, I was wanting to capture the freedom and power that the horse possesses in my mind.  I love driving across the plains imagining what it would have been like to have seen vast herds of wild mustangs dotting the land - much like the Buffalo once did.  This painting is the result of that imagining.
