Plains people were very spiritual and nearly everything could be turned into a ceremony just because of the sheer respect they felt for simple things.  This young woman is being treated to a special hair tying ceremony which will ready her for the larger ceremony she plans to attend.  Elders, or Grandmothers and Grandfathers, played a huge role in the spiritual and cultural structure of any tribe.  their knowledge and experience was very respected and sought after and it was their job to ensure the future generations was taught the proper ways of ceremony and culture.
