Giclee Canvas 24" x 36"

Edition Size: 200

The life of a Plains woman was hard, with little time for recreation.  Preparing hides, making clothing and cooking meals were a constant focus.  While it is true that everyone in the tribe had a hand in rearing the children, the main responsibility for this fell to the woman as well.  Plains women faced other hardships as well, being the ones left behind while the men went on dangerous ventures like buffalo hunts and war party raids.  They were tied to the power of Mother Earth and they drew strength and wisdom from this connection.  But like all cultures, celebrations brought special times and memories and certainly called for special dress - this mother has her ceremonial gown on in preparation for such an event.
